The Apartment Owners Network welcomes the legislation published today by the Department of Justice. This new legislation will go a long way towards fixing the problems created over the last ten years and restoring confidence in apartment living.
We are impressed not only with the speed with which this legislation has been published but also the breath of areas that it covers. We are especially happy that it deals with existing completed and in-progress apartment complexes as well as new builds and we are sure that the compulsory vesting and mediation process will help the thousands of apartment owners currently trapped in estates where the developer is refusing to pay towards the service charge, no services are being offered and the developer is using their preference shares to stop owners having any say in the running of the complex.
We extend our gratitude to the Law Reform Commission and the Civil Law Reform department in the Dept. of Justice for their hard work over the last number of years and also to ministers Dermot Ahern and John Gormley for sponsoring this legislation. We call on all senators and TDs to support it in it’s path to becoming law in the early Autumn.

The Apartment Owners Network is a support and lobby group, founded in November 2007 with the support of Dublin City Council to represent apartment owners nationwide. We work with owners to resolve problems in their complex and to educate them on legislation and rights.
